The Sustainability of Interclamp Handrail Fittings
Hows sustainable are Interclamp key clamp fittings?
A Champion for Green Construction
In today’s world, architects, builders and homeowners are increasingly seeking building materials and solutions that minimise their environmental impact. Interclamp handrail fittings stand out as a champion for green construction, offering a unique combination of durability, versatility and sustainability.
Built to Last, Built to Minimise Waste
-
Durable Materials: Interclamp fittings are crafted from high quality malleable iron in conformance with BS EN 1562:2012, a dependable and well proven material for this type of product. The fittings are hot-dipped galvanised to BS EN ISO 1461:2009 and a secondary additional coating is applied, ensuring exceptional longevity and a corrosion resistant surface for extended life. This translates to fewer replacements and less material wasted over the product’s lifespan.
-
High Recycled Content: Each Interclamp fitting is manufactured from a very high percentage of recycled material, reducing reliance on virgin resources and lowering the product’s carbon footprint.
- End-of-Life Recyclability: When Interclamp fittings eventually reach the end of life, they can be easily recycled due to their highly sustainable material content, avoiding landfill waste and contributing to a circular economy.
Designed for Efficiency and Flexibility
-
Modular System: The modular design of Interclamp fittings enhances their sustainability profile. The fittings can be easily disassembled and reconfigured, allowing for flexibility in design and adaptability to evolving needs. Furthermore, this modular approach facilitates the quick repair of damaged structures and reuse of fittings in different projects, promoting resource efficiency and waste reduction.
-
Minimal Installation Time: Compared to traditional fabricated handrail methods, Interclamp modular fittings offer additional environmental benefits during installation. The simplicity of their design and the ease of assembly translate to shorter installation times and reduced energy consumption on site.
-
Multipurpose Applications: Interclamp’s versatility extends beyond handrails, encompassing guardrails, safety barriers, retail displays and much more. This reduces the need for multiple specialised products, lowering overall material consumption and redundant stock.
Additional Green Advantages
-
Reduced Transportation Emissions: Due to the modular design of Interclamp fittings, they can be packed in standard boxes, reducing the space required for shipping when compared to conventional pre-fabricated handrails. This results in minimised fuel consumption and associated emissions.
-
Low Maintenance: Interclamp’s robust design requires minimal maintenance, further reducing the need for repeat site visits, leading to a reduced environmental impact throughout its lifespan.
-
Recycled packaging: All Interclamp packaging is fully recyclable and hence exempt from the EU plastic packaging levy. A minimum of 30% of Interclamp plastic packaging is manufactured from recycled material and hence does not incur UK plastic packaging tax.
Company Pledge
- Interclamp pledges to reach net zero by 2050. To reach this goal, an annual reduction target of 5% has been introduced starting from 1st November 2023. In order to assess performance against this target, the company’s carbon footprint will be re-assessed on an annual basis.
